How To Build Solar Panels For Home Electricity - A Solar Power Guide

Learning how to build solar panels to generate some or all of your home electricity has finally become financially viable. In the past, the primary way to benefit from sun generated electricity was to purchase an expensive factory built system and have it installed by professionals at a cost of $10,000 - $20,000 and up.

One obvious problem with this method is that it takes from 8-20 years or more to earn your money back from electricity savings. Today with inexpensive technology and improved guide books it is possible to do it yourself for as little as $200.

How DIY Solar Panels Make Electricity

How solar panels generate power and send it to your house is really pretty simple. Sunlight hits the surface of the solar cells which bumps electrons out of place and when enough electrons start moving from several interconnected cells a significant electrical current is created.

This energy is then stored in deep cycle batteries. When electricity is needed it is passed through a small electrical device and converted from direct current (DC) to the alternating current (AC) that many appliances require.

A Solar Power Guide Of The Main Components

1. The Solar Panel - This often consists of a shallow box that has a glass top. The inside of the panel contains a group of electrically connected solar cells that directly convert sunlight into electricity. The box is mounted on the sunniest part of a roof to catch as much direct light for as long as possible during the day.

2. Battery Bank - This a group of one or more deep cycle batteries that store the generated power for later use.

3. Charging Controller - This electronic device prevents the batteries from being damaged from overcharging.

4. Inverter - This converts the direct current (DC) that comes from the stored energy in the batteries into the alternating current (AC) that most household appliances require.

5. System Meter - This device monitors how much power is available from the battery bank and how much power is being used at any given time. Some meters will even keep a historical records as well.

Start With A Simple System

One of the conveniences of making your own solar panels is that you can keep the system as simple or as complicated as your budget and skills allow. The simplest system would not necessarily tie in with the electrical grid from the power company to your house. Instead it would enter your house separately and not connect to the house wiring. The power would be specifically designated for just certain appliances. This saves the cost of hiring an electrician to do the hook up but eliminates the possibility of selling excess electricity back the utility company.

A more complex system might merge the solar panel electricity to the out put of a windmill generator and to the power grid coming into the house from the power company. This configuration not only insures a continual supply of energy on dark days but, also provides for the exciting possibility of selling excess power back to the electric company.

Solar Panels Plans

Building a solar panel is not all that complicated but it does require a good set of illustrated plans written by someone with direct hands-on experience and great sources for inexpensive and free materials. The best solar power guides usually contain detailed illustrated instructions, preferably in the form of a video, for how to solder and interconnect electrical leads to the solar cells with out damaging them.

Very few do it yourself projects have so much possibility to save money, reduce pollution with such a low cost investment of time, skills and money. Isn’t it time to pick up a set of illustrated plans to learn how to build your own solar panels?

Earth4Energy Has Earned Our Highest Rating!

This is an instantly downloadable step by step manual for inexpensively building, (as low as $200 each), your own electricity generating solar panels and windmill.

Earth4Energy Guide

After I purchased the  Earth4Energy eBook I was able to read through the entire manual in one evening. This practical, hands-on manual is designed to quickly get you started building. No unnecessary technical jargon is offered.

It is very specific with lots of helpful and easy to understand diagrams and photos, (with only a few exceptions). The information is very specific and yet allows for adjustment if the parts you obtain vary from the author’s example.

At the time of this review, I tracked down the recommended used and free parts sources and found them to be easily available as promised.

I like the fact that the  Earth4Energy manual is constantly being updated. Refinements and tips are available free on the  Earth4Energy website to anyone that purchases their manual.

UPDATE:   The Earth4Energy Company has begun to produce a whole series of short and focussed videos that show critical details for building windmills and solar panels.

Some of the initial videos show the essential methods and tricks for easily soldering electrical leads to the individual solar cells as well as  exactly  how to connect all the cells in an entire panel. These and future videos on windmill construction are available on a special "members only" webpage that is available at no extra charge to anyone that buys the main eBook.

I have increased this program's rating from 9.0 to 9.7 because of these instructional   videos. Earth4Energy is now my highest rated program.
