Proof That There Is No Energy Shortage

Earth4Energy

Energy Shortage? Energy Crisis? Why every self-righteous elementary school kid is absolutely convinced that the energy situation is so dire that we must drive only small cars. And we must drive them very slowly. Also we are horrible human beings if we should dare to run an air conditioner for comfort. It has become an almost religious experience to deny ourselves speed, pleasure and comfort in order to prevent the use of our endangered energy supply. Using energy is bad. Using energy is sinful.

(Sigh.) Give me a break.

EnergyShortage.org is a website that is solely dedicated to monitoring the world energy crisis. As of this writing the site was following 83 hotspots where running out of energy has become a crisis. The only problem is that in most cases the shortage was really about running out of fuel not energy.

Fuels like oil, natural gas and coal behave like batteries. They contain energy but they are not themselves energy. Now this may sound like splitting hairs but we are really just running low on certain types of these natural batteries but, not the energy itself.

Why We Have More Energy Than We Can Possibly Use

According to Wikipedia, “Solar power (had) the potential to provide over 1,000 times total world energy consumption in 2008, though it provided only 0.02% of the total that year.” That means we receive enough energy from the sun everyday to satisfy all of the energy needs of every man, woman and child on earth for more than an entire year.

A slightly different way to look at this is that the sun delivers to our front door, every day, a gift of more energy than we need to operate our homes and to perhaps charge an electric car. Despite this fact we often feel trapped into buying expensive, traditional, non-renewable fuels.

So What Is The Real Problem?

The real problem might have more to do with a non-renewable energy industry that is at the heart of the wealth and power of entire countries. This industry provides millions of jobs that support millions of families. If we change too quickly or eventually destroy this system completely we may displace so many working people that it could cause a world financial crisis. Whatever solutions are chosen, they should be gradually integrated in a way that supports the current system as much as possible.

Perhaps the real crisis has more to do with a shortage of innovation rather than a shortage of energy.

Here Are a Few Things That We Can Do Now

One solution to the growing fuel shortage is to begin taking advantage of the free energy that is delivered to our homes each day. Why don’t we use home solar collectors to heat water? Also home solar panels, windmills and water wheels could be used generate at least part of our own electricity. This would obviously reduce the cost we pay for power. What we don’t use we can send back into the power grid to ease the burden on that system. Again, this would be a complimentary addition to our current system not an unstable complete replacement.

However, this does not mean that we should necessarily buy commercially available windmills and solar panel systems that are so expensive that they often take as much as 30 years to pay off. We should instead think about building our own simple designs out of inexpensive readily available materials. Some self-sufficient energy pioneers have built their own windmills and solar panels for less than $200 (USD) each. In some cases these projects take no more than a long weekend to make. The investment pay off can be as short as only a few months.

If you have a desire to try a project like this, don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Instead, take advantage of some of the excellent plans and videos that are currently available. Oh by the way, did I mention that there is no energy shortage?  Earth4Energy

After I purchased the Earth4Energy eBook I was able to read through the entire manual in one evening. This practical, hands-on manual is designed to quickly get you started building. No unnecessary technical jargon is offered.

It is very specific with lots of helpful and easy to understand diagrams and photos, (with only a few exceptions). The information is very specific and yet allows for adjustment if the parts you obtain vary from the author’s example.

At the time of this review, I tracked down the recommended used and free parts sources and found them to be easily available as promised.

I like the fact that the Earth4Energy manual is constantly being updated. Refinements and tips are available free on the Earth4Energy website to anyone that purchases their manual.

UPDATE: The Earth4Energy Company has begun to produce a whole series of short and focussed videos that show critical details for building windmills and solar panels.

Some of the initial videos show the essential methods and tricks for easily soldering electrical leads to the individual solar cells as well as exactly how to connect all the cells in an entire panel. These and future videos on windmill construction are available on a special "members only" webpage that is available at no extra charge to anyone that buys the main eBook.

I have increased this program's rating from 9.0 to 9.7 because of these instructional videos. Earth4Energy is now my highest rated program.
