The Turby Wind Turbine: Best For Making
Electricity In Urban Wind
Conditions?
The Turby Wind Turbine, (VAWT), was specifically designed to
address the unique problems associated with producing
electricity in urban or suburban areas. One of the biggest
problems is that often a horizontal wind becomes vertical when
encountering a building. This renders any roof mounted
horizontal or propeller type of wind turbine useless.
Earth4Energy
Why the
Turby is Unique
Vertical axis turbines like the Turby have been used for
centuries and offer several advantages over their horizontal
axis cousins in both cost and efficiency. Its helical shape is
cleverly designed to quietly utilize vertical or horizontal
wind bursts coming from any direction. This makes it nearly
ideal for rooftop electricity production.
Don’t
Fight the Wind
Most other vertical axis turbine designs utilize a blade or
wind scoop that captures the passing wind by blocking it and
thereby spinning the rotor. The drawback to this style of
design is that the very fact that the scoop is solid means that
as it spins it has to move air out of the way. This action
creates drag and actually wastes energy.
Earth4Energy
Non-Turby designs also suffer from a high rotational
threshold. Simply put, these windmills need a stronger wind to
start their rotations. This means that they will miss a portion
of the passing wind if it is below a certain speed. It also
means that even the wind they do catch is not fully converted
to power since some is wasted in getting them to start
spinning.
How Much
Electricity Will The Turby Wind Turbine
Produce?
Theoretically it can produce enough electrical energy to run
an entire household. In reality it depends on the consistency
and intensity of the wind. This will vary greatly depending on
where in the world you live as well as the shape and position
of surrounding buildings. Obviously on windless days windmills
will not produce any power.
Solar
Power Assistance
Rooftop mounted solar panels that convert sunlight directly
to electricity are often an ideal compliment to wind turbines.
Regardless of the wind conditions they will still produce clean
power.
Earth4Energy
Of course, the drawback to solar energy is that often there
isn’t quite enough rooftop real estate to support enough solar
cells to cover all the needs of a typical home. Dark stormy
days also cut down their productivity.
What
Happens When Too much Electricity Is
Produced?
This is a great problem because often power companies will
set up the electric meter to run backwards if power is being
added to the grid. In other situations the payment is rendered
in the form of credits for future electricity or even a check.
The key is to check with the individual power company for their
specific policy.
How long
Does It Take To Pay Off The Investment?
This, of course, depends on many factors such as wind
conditions, the cost of electricity and the cost of the
windmill plus installation. The cost, in rough numbers, of a
new Turby manufactured in Europe has been estimated at $10 -
15,000 USD. The company estimates that it will take an
average of about 8 years to pay for itself in electricity
savings.

Build
Your Own Windmill Options To The Rescue
In an effort to counter the high initial cost and relatively
long payback times, a movement of determined individuals has
taken the steps to build their own horizontal axis wind
turbines for as little as a few hundred dollars using recycled
and used parts. The wonderful thing about this option is that
besides cutting your electrical bill using renewable,
non-polluting wind energy is that the payback can be in as
little as just a month with the right conditions.
It will be exciting when the Turby vertical wind turbines
are found on every rooftop and cost no more than an average
kitchen appliance.

This is an instantly
downloadable step by step manual for inexpensively building,
(as low as $200 each), your own electricity generating solar
panels and windmill.
After I purchased the
Earth4Energy eBook I was able to read through the
entire manual in one evening. This practical, hands-on manual
is designed to quickly get you started building. No unnecessary
technical jargon is offered.
It is very specific with lots of helpful and easy to
understand diagrams and photos, (with only a few exceptions).
The information is very specific and yet allows for adjustment
if the parts you obtain vary from the author’s example.
At the time of this review, I tracked down the recommended
used and free parts sources and found them to be easily
available as promised.
I like the fact that the
Earth4Energy manual is constantly being updated.
Refinements and tips are available free on the
Earth4Energy website to anyone that purchases their
manual.
UPDATE: The
Earth4Energy Company has begun to produce a whole series of
short and focussed videos that show critical details for
building windmills and solar panels.
Some of the initial videos show the essential methods and
tricks for easily soldering electrical leads to the individual
solar cells as well as exactly how to connect all
the cells in an entire panel. These and future videos on
windmill construction are available on a special "members only"
webpage that is available at no extra charge to anyone that
buys the main eBook.
I have increased this program's rating from 9.0 to 9.7
because of these instructional videos. Earth4Energy is now my highest rated
program.
